Book Review — Zondervan Single Column Reference Premier Collection

January 8, 2021 by Chuck Ivey Leave a Comment

Zondervan’s Premier Collection NASB Single Column Reference is a beautiful presentation of God’s Word in the renowned NASB 1995 translation. The materials and typesetting make this a Bible that can compete with similar, more expensive Bibles on the premium market.

Psalm 34:11-14 “Come, you children, listen to me”

This week we find ourselves at the tail end of the second third of Psalm 34 where David gives us short and simple instructions on how to fear the Lord. Verse 11 is, as is typical for this section, straightforward: [11] Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the […]

Guest Book Review of Before the Throne

Before the Throne: Reflections on God’s Holiness is scheduled to print Spring 2019. Dr. David Steele, who also reviewed From Death to Life, graciously agreed to write a review for my new book. I thought I’d share it in hopes of building a bit of anticipation and to show you some of the heart behind this work. As […]

Advice for New Seminary Students, Part Two — The Theological

Having just finished a seven-year career in the military back in 2014 before moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to attend Dallas Seminary full time, I admit that I had been deprived of a great number of life experiences that Americans otherwise get between the ages of 22 and 29. One quite notable example is […]

Run to Him

Book Review: Agonizing for the Faith by Thomas Coutouzis

As I write, I am sitting at my desk in my study with a dozen commentaries lined up in front of me. On the two shelves behind me, I have at least one commentary on every book of the Bible. I don’t begin with that to ‘collect’ props for how many commentaries I own – […]

Trying Times, Faithful God

I wrote recently about a difficult experience in my first pastorate that ended with me finding no other way out but to resign (See: Young, Restless, and Unemployed). My ideas of preaching the Word, seeing a church revitalized, and staying for the long-haul where dashed in only twelve months. In today’s post, I’d like to […]
