Our Mission

“Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Christ Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” — Colossians 3:17

“For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” — 1 Corinthians 2:2

Things Above Us (Col 3:1-2) is committed to producing content that unashamedly points our readers to the Person and work of Jesus Christ and the spreading of His Gospel to every tribe, tongue, and nation. As jars of clay, we have dedicated our lives to the work of Evangelism, Missions, Pastoral Ministry, and Theology. We like sports, too.

We believe that Scripture is the complete revelation for men and the final authority for the Christian faith and life (Revelation 22:18-19, Psalm 19:7-9). We interpret God’s Word with a literal, grammatical, historical hermeneutic and come from both dispensational and covenantal perspectives (all baptistic though). Together, we affirm the five “solas” of the Reformation, as well as the Doctrines of Grace, also known as TULIP. We stand together in affirming The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy and The Danver’s Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.

A Biblical-Theological Introduction to the Old Testament: The Gospel Promisedby Miles V. Van Pelt. 601 pgs. Banned! A Curious Story from G3 2020

However, one other thing emerged from those talks as well: the G3 audience may disagree with the methods the Hardings employ, but they don’t necessarily disagree with the message they bring. In perhaps the most surprising finding of this entire investigation, some G3 attendees told me repeatedly that their issue was HOW the Hardings communicated, not what they communicated. There is a sizable subset that both sympathized with Buice and agreed with the Hardings. I was shocked to find that as annoyed as many were with the Hardings, some G3 attendees I spoke with were almost as annoyed with MacArthur.

Made by SA007, a bomb suitcase. It is a devious puzzle, which you have to solve by defusing the "bomb" within a 5 minute time-window. After that, it will go off and "explode". Various triggers and switches will set it off prematurely when incorrectly handled. You are allowed to use anything found inside the case plus basic lock-picking tools. It'll beep ominously and also more frequently as the countdown approaches zero and tension rises. It is impossible to get it right on the first try and you will probably hear lots of explosions.

1 Timothy 2:12 Revisited — The Authority Word Problem

In How to Use a “For” Clause: 1 Timothy 2:12 and Egalitarianism, I explained how the two phrases in verses 13 and 14 should guide our understanding of how Paul uses the verb “do not permit” in verse 12. More recently, I came across Defusing the 1 Timothy 2:12 Bomb, an argument that “there are too […]

Psalm 119:133-136 — Does Your Love Bring You To Tears?

God justifies us by grace through faith alone, and that faith is followed by good works (Ephesians 2:10). God doesn’t just forgive sinners and leave them in their sin; He promises them help along the way (Proverbs 3:6). That is his promise to us. God provides us with new affections and desires. But in our unredeemed flesh, we still must wage war with sin. Confessing our weakness, we ought to pray with the psalmist “let no iniquity get dominion over me!” It is good and right to plan on not sinning, but we humbly request God to be the power that enables us to walk in newness of life. A healthy fear of the power of sin is essential to avoid it. It is those who think they stand who are in most danger of falling (1 Corinthians 10:12). Humbly acknowledge your need for His grace today.

Psalm 34:17-18 – He is Near the Brokenhearted

It never ceases to astonish me how similar suffering is from person to person, even if they are suffering for different reasons. The thing I hear most often with suffering believers is “I pray, but does God even hear me?” Our verses from Psalm 34 today put that issue to rest for each and every […]
