Christ’s Preserving Prayers: The Reason for Our Perseverance

April 17, 2019 by George Alvarado

From the world’s perspective, there isn’t any beneficial reason to continue in the faith. I mean, why would anyone want to swim against the constantly swelling tide of persecution knowing full well it may cost us our friends, family, jobs, and yes, perhaps our very life? And even in our own hearts, how often in […]

The Line of the Promised One

If you had never heard of the book of Ruth before and then read it for yourself one day, you’d be forced to say it ends rather surprisingly. I’m not talking about the marriage of Ruth and Boaz, although that’s surprising enough in itself. I’m talking about how the book actually ends: with a genealogy […]

Conference on Suffering: An Interview with Andrew Rappaport

When I saw that Striving for Eternity was going to hold a conference in March, I was immediately intrigued. I “worked” for Striving for Eternity (paid in sushi and pizza) for a few years with the role or organizing and emceeing the “Fire” conferences on evangelism. I know the heart of Striving for Eternity and fully […]

Psalm 34:8-10 “You His Saints!”

So far in this series, we’ve covered the first third of this psalm which is dominated by couplets.   Verses 1-7 were simple truths, and in this middle third, verses 8-14, we find simple instructions.  Having laid the foundation and displayed the correct attitude during those first 7 verses, David now begins to teach.  Simple truths lead […]

Thus, we need to be careful when we are talking about folks who committed suicide. Too often I think we skirt around the issue of calling it sin, or even murder. Most people who commit suicide do it as the result of some sort of depression and I think we almost excuse it a little in our minds. It seems rather callous to call a guy who was so depressed he took his own life a murderer. But truth is worthless if it is hidden (Matthew 5:15).

Outsourcing Discipleship

In the secular world, teachers notice a difference between kids whose parents are active in the education of their children and kids who have parents who assume no role in that arena. The teacher can be brilliant in their understanding of the material, exceptionally gifted at communicating information to their given audience, and highly motivated […]
