Ep. 036 | Misunderstanding Covenantalism vs Dispensationalism — TAU Roundtable

May 5, 2020 by George Alvarado

Podcast: Play in new window | Download

George Alvarado is joined by guest, Andrew Rappaport from Striving from Eternity, to discuss misunderstandings between Covenantalists and Dispensationalists. Andrew Recently recorded a short series on his podcast, The Rapp Report, that addresses some of his perspectives, as well as recent statements made by John MacArthur from the Shepherd’s conference about the Christocentric hermeneutic. He also had pastor Emilio Ramos, from Heritage Grace Community Church, on another show to discuss his thoughts on MacArthur’s statements.

What are the misunderstandings and misrepresentations between the two? Is there a balance? Are we sometimes saying the same things? What are the defining issues between the two? And how can we converse with one another without resorting to broad brushing?

Join us as we answer these questions, and others, on this episode of Roundtable at Things Above Us.

Psalm 119:57-60 — What’s Your Portion?

ou would spit out foul tasting food the moment it touched your tongue. You’d remove your hand from a fire before you could feel the heat. Without planning, we rarely go more than a few hours without a meal. We naturally recoil from things we dislike and naturally crave that which will nourish us when we need it. So why is it that you are able to go so long without feasting on God’s Word? Why do you linger so long with sin and temptations to sin? Why does your mind not recoil from wicked thoughts as your hand from a hot flame? The answer is that a part of us still likes the sin, still finds enjoyment there rather than in Jesus.

Satan’s Strategies for Temptation – Part 2

Last time, we saw that Satan tempts us in doubting God’s Word and downplaying the consequences to sin. In this post, we will look at 2 final strategies Satan uses for temptation in Genesis 3:1–5. Distorting God’s Character Essentially Satan has targeted the goodness of God in Genesis 3:4–5. He has called God a liar. […]

Children’s Book Review — The Woman Who Helped A Reformer

The Woman Who Helped A Reformer is a short depiction of the life of Katharina Luther, the wife of the well-known reformer, Martin Luther. The work that she did to help her husband be free to preach and teach the Word of God during a pivotal time in church history is shown with wonderful imagery. Although the book is very well-written and captures little one’s attention, it is the illustrations that put the entire story together. Thoughtful parents will take time to ask their children questions like “How many things is Mrs. Luther carrying on this page? and “What is that in her hand?” in order to engage young readers’ attention.

Children’s Book Review: Leo’s Monster

Leo’s Monster is a book for children aged about 4-7 years old. The setting is “the country” where a city mouse (Leo) visits his friend Zoe. Leo ventures out without Zoe and encounters what he can only assume is some sort of monster!
