Here’s my summary of 1 John 5:1-5.
To live out your faith that Jesus is the Christ you must continue to walk in newness of life by faith; that is, you must love God and His children — this is demonstrated by obeying God’s commandments, or the law of Christ.
To obey His law “by faith” means to be rewarded for diligently seeking Him (Heb 11). You achieve or accomplish this by studying his commands so that you may meticulously obey them–not out of slavish fear, nor for selfish gain alone, (for rewards ARE a God-given incentive), but you obey because God is perceived as worthy to be reverently followed.
When He is rightly the object of your devotion and love, even for only His own sake and not anything to be gained, you overcome the world and the Devil himself.
