The Rural Church Podcast 2.0

The Rural Church Podcast 2.0 is hosted by TAU’s very own, Pastor Allen Nelson. I am a frequent listener and very much enjoy his preaching, as well as his podcast.

I have been on a bit of eschatological journey over the past year. I was previously very much in the camp of Postmillennialist-theonomic-reconstructionist— in short, a Durbinite. I now find myself on the shores of Amillennialism, after a bit of swimming around in the theological waters between the two positions.

With the help of a good friend and mentor, and leaning more into the 1689 LBCF and Baptist covenant theology, I find Amillennialism to be more biblically faithful, as well as historically validated.

I am still submitting myself to the Scriptures and the Spirit and learning. And I must admit, I thought I knew a lot more about Amill before I started giving it a fair shake.

I have, however, been solidified in my position that Dispensational Premillennialism is about as biblically viable as infant baptism, to borrow Pastor Nelson’s analogy.

One thing that has made things easy on me is a lot of the similarities between the two eschatological positions, one of which being the understanding of the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17). We believe in a literal rapture, but certainly not Christ coming two more times.

Pastor Nelson’s teaching on the Rapture in his July 2 episode of The Rural Church Podcast was very helpful to me and answered some questions I have been pondering over my study in the past year. You can find his handout from this teaching here.

This episode was very comprehensive and easy to follow along with, and is a great resource if you are currently coming from a Dispensational Premill standpoint. It can be an intimidating topic, but Allen breaks it down masterfully.
