Roman Catholicism is a dark religion and this is not by accident. It is demonically influenced to have a veneer of Christianity while actually leading its adherents away from Christ and to eternal destruction. Today’s post is to show you how the “Mary” of Roman Catholicism is not the biblical Mary at all.

Here are 5 demonic characteristics of Rome’s Mary:

Divine Attributes

2679 of Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC): “Mary is the perfect Orans (pray-er), a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of the Father, who sends his Son to save all men. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus’ mother into our homes, for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. The prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope.”

Roman Catholics pray to Mary. This is explicitly stated in the official teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. A few points to make here:

In Matthew 6:6 Jesus says, “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret…”

Jesus is not teaching against public prayer. Nor is He teaching against praying to Christ or the Holy Spirit because the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are equal in Divinity. But there is a clear implication that prayer is reserved to God alone.

Psalm 65:2 helps us further. It says, “O you who hear prayer, to you shall all flesh come…” One of the reasons God is praiseworthy is because He is the One who hears prayers. He has the divine attribute of “prayer hearing” if you will.

God can hear the prayers of any person anywhere because He is omnipresent (Psalm 139:7-12). This applies to God alone. Satan is not omnipresent. The saints in heaven are not omnipresent. Only the triune God is omnipresent.

So, to say that we pray “to” Mary, is to ascribe to Mary divine attributes that are reserved for God alone. The Mary of Rome is not the Mary of Scripture.

    Immaculate Conception and Sinless Life

491 (CCC): “Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, “full of grace” through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854: The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.”

493 (CCC): “By the grace of God Mary remained free of every personal sin her whole life long.”

So, the false and demonic Mary of Rome was immaculately conceived, meaning she was kept from the stain of original sin. Adam was never her federal head. And beyond that, she never committed any personal sin for her entire life.

But the Bible says that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). This includes the biblical Mary. The fact that she was “full of grace” does not mean she was immaculately conceived or never committed personal sin. It simply means she was chosen by God to carry Christ in her womb.

Which, by the way, is amazing. We don’t despise the biblical Mary. We love her, like we love all the saints. We recognize her special role and are grateful for it. We give God the glory for it. But we despise the unbiblical teaching put forth here by the Prince of Darkness.

Consider Hebrews 4:14-16 – Since then we have a great high priestwho has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God,let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priestwho is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has beentempted as we are,yet without sin.  Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Christ’s perfect life accomplished and fulfilled all righteousness for His people. Are we to suppose that Mary also accomplished a righteous life? Of course not. Mary needed Christ to bleed for her actual sins; her sin in Adam and her personal sins.

As a note, this doctrine was not considered dogma in the Roman Catholic Church until 1854!

    Bodily Assumption

966 (CCC): “[T]he Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death.” The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians: ‘In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.’

There is disagreement in Rome on whether or not Mary died. Some say she was bodily assumed into heaven before her death, others that she died and was immediately taken up body and soul into heaven.

But the point is that either way, she is again being elevated here to a divine status. She is possessing qualities here that the Scriptures simply do not give to her. There is zero biblical support for the bodily assumption of Mary.

Some will say “Well, Enoch was taken up and Elijah was taken up.” No dispute there. But how do you get from that to this false view of Mary? You can’t.

This was not even dogmatized in Roman Catholicism until 1950. That’s right! Over 1900s since the resurrection of Christ. It’s just a made-up doctrine that fits in with the worship of the demonic Mary of Rome.

I understand that many Roman Catholics will say they don’t worship Mary. But when you begin to add all of these attributes up that she has, it really begins to shed light on how dark this unbiblical Mary actually is.

    Queen of Heaven

Our previous CCC reading in paragraph 966 said Mary was now “exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things…”

Now, I find this one fascinating because this phrase is actually in the Bible. It comes up in Jeremiah 7 and Jeremiah 44.

Jeremiah 7:18 says, “The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven. And they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.” (See also Jeremiah 44:17-18).

Judah bought into the lie of a “queen of heaven” and combined aspects of the true God with false gods. Absolutely, 100% demonically influenced here. And it’s really sad to me that our Roman Catholic friends and neighbors cannot see the connection. They’ve done something similar!

There is no Queen of heaven. There is only a King. His name is Jesus. This King has a Bride. That’s the church.

Luke 11:27-28 says, “As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

    Advocate, Helper, and Mediatrix

966 (CCC): “…Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation . … Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix.”

Once again Roman Catholics are applying Divine aspects of the triune God to this demonic invention they’ve named “Mary.”

Who is the “helper”? The Holy Spirit is specifically given this title by Jesus in John 15.

Vatican 2: Mary “Shared her Son’s sufferings as He died on cross. Thus, in a wholly singular way she cooperated by her obedience, faith, hope and burning charity in the work of the Savior in restoring supernatural life to souls.”

False. Mary does not have a “saving office.” Scripture tells us, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).

Hebrews 7:25 says, “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”

We do not need Mary’s intercession before our one intercessor, Christ Jesus. We do not need Mary to get to God. We need Christ alone. John 14:6 says, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

It is the finished work of Christ, His perfect life, His substitution for sinners, dying under God’s wrath, bearing our sins in His Body on the tree, crying out it is finished, dying, lying in a tomb, rising again the 3rd day, and ascending into heaven as King, it is this work alone that saves us as applied to our souls by the Holy Spirit.

One day, the demonic Mary, and all who worship her, will be cast off into the lake of fire. We don’t publish this piece to hurt Roman Catholics but to help them. They must repent of idolatry and close with Christ in faith.

    Conclusion

Let’s close this post with words from the biblical Mary. John 2:5 says, “His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.'”

This is a good word. What do we want to believe? What do we want to practice? Whatever the Son says. He has spoken to us through the inerrant, infallible, sufficient, authoritative, clear, and necessary Scriptures which are our highest authority.

And these Scriptures teach us that Christ alone is our only suitable and all sufficient Savior. Rest in Him! And do whatever He tells you in His Word.

And maybe a final warning: “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” (1 John 5:21).  Let us be mindful how easy it is to fall into idolatry! Even of concepts that have their root in Scripture, like turning Mary into a false Mary.
