Placebo Prayers

September 11, 2019 by Michael Coughlin

Last weekend, we had 6 men preaching God’s Word in our group. We split into two groups of 3 and separated physically. This allows us to always have 2 men preaching the mystery of the gospel. So we were able to achieve nearly 5 hours of street preaching in 2.5 hours, with each man carrying no more than about an hour of the load. But this week, I was the only preacher, and I was committed to filling the time. How God enabled that to happen is truly remarkable!

Soul (movie review)

Though originally intended for theatrical release, Disney/Pixar’s Soul was released on Disney+ on Christmas last year given the present pandemic. Christians may rightly already be skeptical just by virtue of the film’s title and its dealing with souls. Weird metaphysics are to be expected, but there’s also a skewed sense of justice that’s worth examining […]

Discipleship is Not a Luxury – It’s a Necessity

If you could cut me and examine my blood, I imagine aside from the physical components, you would find four elements in there. You’d find love for Christ, love for my wife, love for my football team (or soccer for my American friends), and a love for making disciples. Disciple-making is something near and dear […]

Arminian Hopelessness: STTA!

Something To Think About! The Arminian doctrine which denies the perseverance of the saints (in order that man’s “free-will” may remain sovereign and autonomous) is detestable to the people of God. A God who would hold you in His bosom against your own will is not a God that the unregenerate mind can worship. Free-willers and […]

Myths and Truths About Foster Care, Part 1

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Foster Care, it’s that people have a great deal of preconceived notions. I was no different, really. I came into foster care believing I knew what I was getting into. The truth is God has used my foster kids, and the whole experience in general, to teach me […]

Seven Books I’ve Read So Far In 2018 (And You Should Too)

I read books! I told a young friend of mine the other day, “Christians are readers.” Obvious sentiment, I know, because there is no such thing as a Bible-less Christian, and, if you don’t want to be Bible-less, you have to read. This is a skill every Christian needs to hone. Thankfully, in the centuries following the […]

Ep. 027 | Dustin Benge Interview — TAU Roundtable

Michael interviews Dr. Dustin Benge of Southern Seminary about the two sermons he gave at the 2019 Cruciform Conference concerning the cruciform gospel. Dustin preached from Titus 3 and posed 4 questions to consider: Where does a cruciform gospel start? What does a cruciform gospel exalt? What is the message of a cruciform gospel? And […]
